Tom Ennis Wins D. W.
Field Park Road Race


  Tom Ennis of Holbrook won
the 3 1/2-mile handicap road
race at D. W. Field Parkway,
sponsored by the Spartan Ath-
letic Club of Brockton, recently.
George Conefrey of the Brock-
ton High school cross-country
team racked up the fastest time
for the race, 18:42, and finished
fifth in the race. Bill Haley, a
teammate of Ennis' on the Hol-
brook High cross-country team,
ran second in the race.
  Other runners in the order
of their finish were: Third, Pat
Conefrey of Brockton; fourth,
Dave Gorman of Brockton; fifth,
George Conefrey; sixth, Eric An-
derson of East Bridgewater;
seventh, Bill Potter of Holbrook,
and eighth, Larry Downey of
Holbrook.
  The regular race will be con-
ducted next Sunday at D. W.
Field. A one-half mile cross-
country race also will be con-
ducted for girls.



Butler Wins Local
Spartan A. C. Race


  Johnny Butler was the
winner of the Spartan A. C.
of this city's weekly road
race at the D. W. Field Park
course.
  Butler, who ran a fine
race, finished in front of
John Anderson. Ken Hib-
bard took third place, and
Art Kilgore was fourth.
  Graham Parnell, director
of races, announced today
that future races will be
conducted Saturday, start-
ing at 2:30 P. M. The sum-
mary:
  Won by John Butler; sec-
ond, John Anderson; third,
Kenneth Hibbard; fourth,
Art Kilgore; fifth, Eric An-
derson; sixth, Tom Ennis;
seventh, Dave Gorman;
eighth, Bill Creighton; ninth
Pat Conefrey; 10th, Larry
Downey; 11th, George Con-
efrey.

Dave Gorman Winner
Of Spartan AC Race


  Dave Gorman, an eighth
grade student at West Junior
High, won Sunday's Spartan
A.C. 3.5 mile handicap road
race at D. W. Field Park.
  Gorman, younger brother of
three former Brockton High
cross country stars, was timed in
16 minutes and 26 seconds in
outlegging a field of 10 runners.
  Larry Downey of Holbrook
trailed Gorman, who is only a
13-year-old, across the finish
line. Marv Jensen of Brockton
High took third place.
  Mrs. Margaret Parnell, wife of
the veteran New England road
racing star, won the special
women's cross country race.
Norma VandePoole took second
place. The men's summary:
  Gorman 16:26; Downey 21:03;
Jenson 15:20; Ennis 14:13; Haley
15:09; Ramsey 15:31; G. Conefrey
18:36; Lamar 16:00; P. Conefrey
16:39; Anderson 23:00.

 

 

 

 



Conefrey Winner of
Spartan AC Race


  Pat Conefrey of Brockton,
a member of the Spartan AC
won the club 2 1/4 mile run
held at D. W. Field park.
  The fastest time of the
handicapped event was
turned in by John Butler
who was clocked at 14:15.
Runnerup positions went
to Bill Crayton, Dave Gor-
man, John Butler and Bob
Ramsey.
